My sincere condolences to his wife, mother and entire family.
Listening to his son speak at his funeral; has prompted me to share my story.
Since the early seventies, Charles and I were close friends. On one occasion in the seventies, I called Charles and asked him to move some bags for me from my sisters apartment (on100 street in Harlem) to my mother's apartment (on105th street).Of course he said yes and he came to get the bags. He took the bags with all my clothes, and all my life long treasures; and put them outside the apartment into the hallway. I came out the apartment into the hallway; I didn't see the bags. I asked Charles where the bags were; he calmly said I threw them in the incinerator!!! I couldn't believe it. I SAID WHAT !!!
WHY did you throw all my stuff down the incinerator.
He said I thought that's what you called me for. I couldn't believe it. I said you think I called you all the way over here; to go to the incinerator for me? I can go to the incinerator for myself. He said that's what I thought. I'm sure he had too much Colt 45 on that day. Almost 50 years later I still laugh when I think about that day. Charles was a great man. His wife and entire family were truly blessed to have him. Myself and many people who encountered him were blessed. He was definitely a gentle giant. I never saw him lose his temper!! My heart is saddened.
