Q: How did you meet Carmel?
A: I never met her but I just read about her. I do know your struggle..I just lost both parents. They both had dementia. From reading all these beautiful posts , I wish I did meet you. Sound like you were such a loving selfless person . Just like both my parents. Rest easy sweetheart, go embrace the lord. Say hi to my mom and dad for me and btw when you get to heaven , you’ll be safe and sound….. with your healthy brain back!❤️ I’m so very sorry you had a struggle . God sees all ! Rest peacefully

To my dear friend Nina Lawson and all members of the Lawson and McDougall families, Calvin and I are so very sorry to learn of Carmel's passing. I was able to interact with Carmel at various family events over the years, and to observe the deep love you had for each other. Carmel's food was so tasty and creative! Years ago she catered an event hosted by my sister Pat Betty and got rave reviews for presentation and flavor. I share your grief that Carmel is no longer physically here but rest assured that she is safe where she belongs now, in the loving Arms of our God.

Mom started taking care of me when I was six months old. Through her, I gained an extra grandparent, teacher, and role model. I was fortunate enough to grow up with her grandchildren, and have often been confused as one of her son's kids! I learned how to properly write, ride a bicycle, and I was even potty trained under her roof. After all of those years, I came to think of the McDougalls as blood. I was Mom's baby and I will miss her until the end of my days.
Thank you to the McDougall family, I will cherish the memories that we have made. Mom was one of one.

Our Aunt Carmel, thank you for many happy childhood memories. Your endless patience and direction, while multi tasking was remarkable.
When I knew I was staying the night/weekend, I was very excited because of the never ending activities (small/big).
I still freeze in my steps when recalling that (you know better) stare. LOL- we all knew exactly what that meant. Love ya much.

Many hours of my childhood were spent in Aunt Carmel’s kitchen helping her cook for catering events.. my main job was sealing the homemade beef patties with a fork. Thank you for always sending soup for Mom when she was sick and making the BEST cornmeal pudding for my birthday. You are gone too soon but will be in our hearts FOREVER ♥️ Rest in Peace

I still have fond memories of the days after school when I had to stay at Carmel’s house til my mom got home from work (because I kept losing my key! )
I guess it was supposed to be punishment but during that time Carmel’s family became my family, I fondly referred to them as cousins, Carmel’s home was filled with so much love and good energy sometimes I didn’t want to leave, besides, Carmel was always cooking up something good in the kitchen!
Carmel was a good friend to my Mom during that time (her son) Michael was the only boy my Mom trusted ” he was also the only person that could talk my mom into letting me go out,..anywhere! and eventually she allowed or maybe “arranged” for Michael to escort me to my first Prom.
