Obituary of Cameron M. Mency

Please share a memory of Cameron to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dear Family & Friends,

Today we stand united in grief and in love, to celebrate the life of our beloved Cameron; our daughter, sister, cousin, niece - our lifelong friend. While her sudden departure has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts, her smile, her spirit, her laughter, her beautiful voice, and sweet memories will continue to surround us.

Cameron Myrna Mency was the only daughter of Joan and Lamont Mency, and loving sister to her brothers, Jalen, and Lamont Jr. She was born on June 14, 2000 – the sweetest birthday gift, a mother could ever ask for (coming into the world, one day after Joan’s birthday).

In her 23 years with us here on earth, Cameron created such a big life for herself from day one and touched so many people - it is hard to know where to begin. Shestarted her early academic career in Hempstead Pre-k and soon after joined the Baldwin School Community and is affectionately known as their “Community Daughter.” From Brownies to Girl Scouts Silver, she was always striving to make her community and the world a better place, while learning essential leadership skills along the way.

Cameron’s most defining love was her interest and passion for music. She taught herself how to not only write music, but how to read it too. Her talents did not stop there! She also taught herself to play several musical instruments including piano and guitar. As an avid vocalist, she was truly blessed, and you could say “singing was her calling.” She was a selected member of Gospel for Teens and loved to sing since she was little.

Everyone knows her voice was her vessel; and singing for Cameron was an expression of her entire being. A being which was a true testament to the vibrant, inspirational life she led. Cameron was a fearless young woman, full of courage, compassion, and boundless love. Her spirit was indomitable, her heart, an ocean of kindness.

Cameron’s voice will be a forever melody that plays on even the cloudiest of days; and her luminous smile, a beacon that will continue to light up our darkest of nights. Her zest for life, and infectious spirit that touched everyone who knew her, will always give us a reason to look up and smile.

Her willingness to help others was continuously demonstrated through hours of volunteering with multiple charitable organizations and through different selfless, reliable, loving, and caring acts to simply lend a helping hand to those in need. Cameron’s inner beauty matched her outward beauty; she found joy in both the simplest and the most luxurious of things; and in doing so, taught us to appreciate the little moments that make life so beautiful.

Cameron remains a friend in the hearts of all that knew and loved her. She is ours to keep and will forever be in our hearts. Through God’s grace Cameron will remain a rock when we feel unsteady, an anchor when we are adrift, our compass when we lose our way, and our light when her absence darkens our days. Cameron was truly finding her way as a responsible adult, navigating this thing we call “life” with grit and grace. She established her career as a Client Specialist for Acupath Laboratories, Inc. in Plainview, and a Manager at OG Training Academy in Lindenhurst. Her colleagues were deeply saddened by her sudden passing and remain consistent in their unwavering support for our family at this challenging time.

That is the thing about Cameron, her ambition was endless and her dedication to all she put her mind to, relentless. She was also nearing completion of her NYU Software Development certification and would have completed her program by the year’s end.

While we are saddened by her sudden absence, we must give thanks for her time here with us. Be thankful for her presence and cherish every memory. Teachers, principals, mentors, co-workers, classmates, neighbors, coaches, pastors and of course all of you here with us today to celebrate her, have all reached out to share their condolences and share our sorrow -we are thankful for every call, text, visit and message. Her friendship was the gift that will keep giving for a lifetime. A gift we were blessed to unwrap for 23+ years; one that will forever bring us immense joy, comfort, and love.

Those left to cherish Cameron’s loving memory are her mom and dad, Joan and Lamont Mency; her brothers Jalen and Lamont Jr., her grand-parents Cather and Melvin Lewis, the entire Mency and Lewis family and a host of friends too numerous to name, but dearly loved.

Lovingly submitted by the Family
