Daryl Hatch posted a condolence
Tuesday, April 4, 2023
Today I get a chance to tell you a funny story about my little brother Gerard M. Hatch. Some of y'all may remember this story about my little Gerard and some of you may find it to be informative information. Well this story is about the "M" in Gerard's name. When Gerard was seven years old he came to me with a big request! Now, I want you to think about this, a little seven years old he came to me with a big request and Gerard was truly serious about this request. This is what Gerard said. Hey Daryl, I want you to name your new baby after me! Now,I was not only stunned about what he "Gerard " said. I was amazed at how he just requested that I name my baby after him. Remember that this is a little guy, a seven year old. Excuse me while I pick up my jaw off the floor, and gather all of my thoughts. Because I was shocked. I had to ask Gerard where and how did you come up with this request? Here's Gerard's logic! Well, little Bobby is named after Bobby "BW" and Larry is named after Lawrence. Now all of that is true! Then Gerard said that you can name your new baby after "ME"! Your problem solved! Yeah, name your new baby after me! Fr'real, my son named after my seven year old little brother " NO WAY"! Now I'm sitting here trying to come up with a constructive way to not just say NO! But you gotta be kidding me right? But again, Gerard was truly serious about this request. Then Gerard said, what do you think about my idea? A seven year old has me thinking to myself that we have one serious problem, and how do I handle this situation? Well, to make a long story short! This is what I did! When my son was born, I gave Daryl "DJ" my first name and took that "M" that you see in Gerard's name and made that seven year old little brother request come true. In other words my son's middle name is "Maurice" that's right, he's been named after his uncle Gerard. And I'm glad at the age of seven, my little brother Gerard came up with the best middle name ever!
I Love you Truly Gerard, and your name lives on!

This was truly a shocker, Gerard was my first boyfriend from middle school through high school. He was always very protective of me and would walk to the end of earth to make sure I got home from school or any place I had to go. He took me to my prom, it was one I will never ever forget, this kid 18 year old rented a Mercede's Stretch Limo to take me to my prom. He even told my whole block in Roosevelt, that he would be coming to get me and indeed he made a grand entrance. I was so impressed. Gerard had a very hard childhood, he had a lot going on, yet he still kept a smile on his face. He was always willing to do anything for you. He was so afraid of being at home by himself while Hurricaine Gloria was going on, he walked from Hempstead to Roosevelt to my house in the storm so he could be there with my family and I. I will never forget him. Rest in Peace Gerard, you had it difficult, but you are at peace now. My condolences to the family. E. Frazier
