Angela Tappan Obituary

Angela Ruth Tappan, 86 was called home on July 19, 2016. Angela was born on November 24, 1929 in New York, NY to Louis and Beaora Melvin. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up in Harlem and later relocated to the Lower Eastside when she married Frederick D. Tappan. Angela was a homemaker who later went back to school and got her GED. During her lifetime she worked at various jobs and found her niche as a Customer Service Representative. Angela retired from the Lillan Vernon Company at age 70. Angela was an avid reader who also loved dancing and traveling to different countries. Angela's greatest joy was her seven children (Diana, Marie, Sonja, Terence, Michael, Desiree and John Jr,). She was also a devoted grandmother and great grandmother. Angela was preceded in death by her mother Beaora, father Louis, sisters Lucille Scales, Margie Melvin and brother Louis Melvin Jr., husband Frederick D. Tappan, children Sonja Tappan, John Bratton Jr. and Marie Glover, grandchildren Sherine Tappan and Sharif Glover. She is survived by her children Diana E. Green, Terence Tappan, Michael Tappan and Desiree Bratton. Eleven grandchildren (Jamal, Teniqua, Gina, Trevor, Michael Jr., Matthew, Geoffrey, Jonathan, Cynthia, Janel, Kahlil and Cheynne. Thirteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and one niece Angela Scales.
