Estraleta (Esther) Howard Brown born in Isle Wight County, Virginia to the union of Samuel and Alverta Howard on October 19th. She was the first born child to the Howard household. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Ivor VA. She remained a faithful member of Mt. Sinai until she relocated to Roosevelt, New York in the early 60's. Esther was educated in the school system of Isle Wight VA and graduated from Smithfield Training School. She always had a passion for helping others and chose as a profession a career in the field of nursing. She went on to further her training by attending schools in the New York area to earn certificates in the medical field. Esther joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Roosevelt, New York under the leadership of the Late Walter R. Mackey, Sr. and continued under the dynamic leadership of the Late Rev. Dr. Arthur L. Mackey, Sr. and present pastor (Rev. Arthur L. Mackey, Jr.). Esther was a faithful and dedicated member of Mt. Sinai until her health began to fail. She was a faithful member of the Willing Workers, Floral Club, Nurses Unit, Senior Ushers, Missionaries and Women's Ministry. Esther loved the Lord, her family and special friends. She made a profound impact on all those she met. She was a collector of dolls, figurines (especially Christmas), plants and clocks. Esther worked for over sixteen years as a Health Care provider, Board of Elections inspector was and active in her community in regard to tenants' rights. Esther was preceded in death by her parents and Brother Lester. She departed this life on July 7, 2016 at Winthrop Hosp. She leaves to cherish her memories – sister Priscilla Winslow of Hampton VA, two nieces, Leetrice Holmes of Hampton and U. S. Army Staff Sgt. Vernetta Winslow of Tucson AZ; one great nephew, Jason Holmes, special great great niece Melaina; god children; Toya Willis, Itanji Bryant and Myra Harris; cousins and many special friends.
