Obituary of Barbara A Simms

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara A. Simms, affectionately known as "Babi", was born in Costa Rica, Central America on November 15, 1932, to Everisto and Lena Jones. She was the eldest of four children. Barbara was married to the late Frank Simms. While Frank, who owned his own business worked by day, Barbara worked nights so that she could be home with her family. Barbara's life was dedicated to her children and grandchildren. She was a nurturer who provided for her loved ones, or her "kings and queens" as Frank would say. Whether it was pressing a shirt, making a sandwich, or getting the children up for school, it was Barbara's joy to take care of those she loved. Barbara Simms was unique and one to be admired. Although small in stature, she was a pillar of quiet strength. She always encouraged and motivated her children, through good and tough times. Her heartwarming advice was always "tomorrow will be a better day". Barbara's children never had to seek emotional support. It was bountiful and plenty. Whether it was encouraging their interest in a new endeavor or a simple question regarding friendship, she always gave them the inspiration and drive they needed. She was a woman with a big heart, who was the embodiment of HOPE. Even in matters and events that she may not have understood her overall advice to her children was to aspire to succeed. "DO YOUR BEST!" was a principle rule of the household. Barbara took extreme pride in her home; one example is her manicured lawn. She and her husband were adamant about landscaping and the upkeep of their property. They enjoyed working in the yard, planting flowers, and grooming the grass. They shared a love of outdoor projects. She was a "do it yourself" kind of woman. There were many times when she even mowed the lawn herself. Inside the home, one of her simple joys was to prepare porridge for the kids after school; not cereal, but "PORRIDGE". Porridge was a staple in the home that generations enjoyed. Barbara was a firm believer in Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This especially came into play with the tragic losses of her husband Frank, son Armando and granddaughter Tyrene. Her relationship with God was strong, and her faith unshakeable. She believed that God is always there for us and always on time. She instilled in her family that He will always make a way. Barbara is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, one sister of Costa Rica, in-laws, a host of very special cousins, nieces and nephews and an innumerable amount of friends and loved ones.
