Neil Woodard was born January 2, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY. He attended Music and Arts High School where he studied classical piano and received a basketball scholarship to St Paul’s College in Virginia and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Afterwards he became an educator, counselor, freelance writer and musician.
Neil also spent a number of years with his father, Minister Maynard Woodard, to follow in his footsteps as a passionate lover of God. Everyone who knew Neil, knew he loved God, Music and Basketball! Neil was known to be a “people lover” and served in every community that he took residence in. His love drove him to use his gifts as a natural born teacher and leader and served as a mentor to the youth. He was a great encourager to his family, leading the way for the Smith Family Reunion. He left behind an innumerable amount of friends who love and miss him dearly.
There are not enough books to fill all of the great works that Neil has done. We will all remember Neil’s imprint on our hearts forever. Neil is survived by his mother Susan Woodard Williams; siblings Karen Freeman, Gregory Woodard, and Lori-Ann Woodard; son Elijah Woodard; and step children Oneil Perry and Lashona Perry.
Neil always referred to himself as SUPERMAN! And we know that he is truly flying on high with the Master above. Although we miss him dearly and the pain of the loss is still fresh in our hearts, our family invites you to celebrate his flight home!
