Please share a memory of Sarah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sarah Elizabeth Ebron was born on October 2, 1931 at 36 Grove Street, Hempstead, New York to the parents of Moses and Mary Ebron. Sarah, affectionately known as "Flung" was always a fun-loving and genuine person. She was very witty and wasn't afraid to speak her mind. Her early years were spent growing up in Hempstead in the company of many loving relatives and friends. She was the devoted mother of two sons, Timothy (Poojum) and Amos (AP). Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her two children. She was a loving aunt and mother-figure to her niece, Francine and other nieces and nephews. She enjoyed family time with her children and often played board games and outdoor sports. She also had a passion for drawing and painting. She also reached a Second Degree level of Reiki Practitioner (a method of natural healing). Sarah is a proud graduate of Hempstead High School and went on to further her education at Tuskegee Institute where she had the privilege of training and competing against Wilma Rudolph. She majored in Business Administration at Coppin State, Baltimore, MD and NY Institute of Technology. In 1993, she obtained her Associates Degree in Business Administration from Suffolk County Community College. Sarah was no stranger to education and hard work. Among her numerous positions, she worked at Pinkerton Agency as a Private Investigator and A&S Department Stores as Supervisor. She had a profound love for children and also worked for the Hempstead Public School System, teaching foreign students to speak English. In 1968, she relocated to Baltimore, under the supervision of Dr. Sheldon, the former Superintendent of Hempstead Public Schools, who accepted a position as the Superintendent of Baltimore City Schools. Together, they worked diligently to facilitate a program to improve the inner city school system. Once the program was underway, she relocated back to Freeport, New York and began working at the Nassau Children's Shelter and St. Mary's Home of the Angels to continue her passion for underserved children. She moved further east to Coram, NY and began working at Brookhaven National Laboratories in 1977 as the Chief Steward of Custodians and later a Facility Office Assistant in the Plant Engineering Department. During her tenure, she also sat on the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee Board and eventually retired in 1995. Retirement did not mean Sarah stopped working. She moved back to Hempstead and served as a volunteer Mentor at the Franklin Elementary School, sharing her love of art with the youth. In 1999, she relocated to Jonesboro, GA and resumed her passion for working with children and began her employment with Clayton County School System as a Bus Monitor. She served in this position for many years until she finally retired. She has faithfully and selflessly served her family, community and numerous others by sharing her life, love and compassion. Due to her declining health, she relocated back to NY in 2014. On April 16, 2016 at 5:00 p.m., Sarah entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Timothy "Poojum" Ebron, her sisters, Clara Wilson Edwards, Mary Irene Hill, Della "Boochie" Harding, her brothers, Sylvester Ebron and Moses "Brother" Ebron and beloved cousin, Daniel Cooper. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Amos Sherald (Dylcia) of Coram, NY, beloved Granddaughter, Dylcia Sherald, three brothers, William "Wine" Ebron (Carol) of Uniondale, NY, John "JT" Ebron of Fayetteville, GA, Timothy "Big Tim" Ebron (Barbara) of Union City, GA, cousin, DeSoto Penrice (Lorraine) of Atlanta, GA and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
