Obituary of Sha-La Horton

Please share a memory of Sha-La to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sha-La Rondu Horton, affectionately known as Candyman or Mista Famous, was born June 17th, 1985 in Hempstead, NY and has departed from this life on April 5th, 2016. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick (Latee) & brother, Latee (Dubar) Horton. Sha-La's early education started at Redan Elementary school down in Lithonia, GA where he relocated in 1990 to live with his grandmother, the late Elizabeth (Peach) Horton. Sha-la later graduated from Lithonia High School in 2003. He did a year of college at Bethune Cookman where he majored in Business. Sha-La loved music. It was in his grandmother's garage where he and his brother Quameek along with friends discovered they all would share an unbreakable bond through music. He didn't know that they would become performers overnight, but he definitely knew they had talent so that is where "Untouch Ent" was born. Sha-La went on to record music and perform with his brother & friends who were more like family everyday up until his death. He inspired everyone he met to be something greater than life and that is among many reasons why he was so loved. Sha-la was also cared for by his Aunt Cooke and Uncle Rickenbacker while living in Atlanta Georgia. They attended school meetings, cooked meals for them, shopped for them and most importantly made sure they were in church. Their formative years were spent at Faith Apostolic Church under Pastor Weymon Stroud and Agape Church under his uncle James Rickenbacker. In the neighborhood, Sha-La was known as the Candy Man because that's where he started his own neighborhood store and sold snacks -- chips, nachos, soda, candy, gum. He even moved on to selling dinners from the garage and later opening up the UnTouch'D grill. Everyone on the block loved him because he was always trying to help someone. His grandmother often had to kick folks out of her house plenty of nights and mornings because Sha-La kept a house full. He made you feel like you were a part of the family the very first time he met you and if you needed a place to stay, even if meant giving up his own bed, he always tried to make a way. More than anything, Sha-La will be remembered for bringing a smile & plenty of laughter to those he met. He loved his family dearly and made his best efforts to stay in contact with those near or far and whenever he could he always told you how much he loved you. If you ever needed to talk to him, no matter the time or place he would stop and make sure everything was good for you. He cared immensely about those around him. He was really virtuous when it came to children, so of course he would be the best father to his own son, Duron. He spent every day with him making sure he loved on him and gave him the world before he left this earth. Sha- La has left an impressionable amount of love, gentleness, and plenty of friendships with lasting memories. He was loved, respected and appreciated by many and he touched lives in ways that can't be explained with just words. He leaves to treasure his lasting legacy his loving family: Zandra (Asia) & Kent (Kindu) Cameron (Mother and Stepdad) from Hempstead, NY, Duron (Son) from Staunton VA, Lashanee Horton-Suber (Izaiah) (Sister and brother-in-law) from Union SC, Toisheva (Sister) from Emmaus Pennsylvania, La-Vasia (Sister) from Freeport, NY, Quameek (Brother) from Lithonia Georgia, Margie & Darryl (D.J.) McClurkin (Godmother and God-brother) & a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and extended family and friends. Special Friends: ABG Allah, Amanda Devericks (Son's mother), Nicholas Fulton, Jaleesa Prather (Lifelong friend), Cecil Allen, Kiona Dunson, Dominique Phillips, Shamika Black, Ariyel Herritage, Isaiah Bailey, Curtis Blair, & the UnTouch'D Ent family.
