Obituary of Allen Jerome Simpkins

Joy, gratefulness and pride reign throughout their home in Queens, New York, as proud parents, Melba Dean and Allen Jerome Simpkins Sr., celebrated the birth of their blessed son, Allen Jerome Simpkins, Jr., on March 3, 1970.
Allen started his early education in the Queens school district. He finished his secondary education in the Roosevelt school district. Upon graduation, Allen attended Five Town College.
Allen was noted for his outstanding athletic performance in football. In High School he played football as a receiver. He was selected to play on the Nassau County All Division Team. He later played flag football for various teams. One of his greatest successes was playing for Gillo Realty Lions. He was inducted into the Flag Football Hall of Fame. He was an enthusiastic Roosevelt PAL youth coach for football and baseball.
Allen was a jack of all trades. He was employed with United Cerebral Palsy, cablevision, and the transportation industry. In addition, Allen had a talent to excel at electrical work.
He was an awesome #1, well known Disk Jockey (“DJ”), otherwise known as, “DJ Al Monday”. Al Monday was a member of The Chosen Tribe. Al Monday was the people choice when it came to selecting a “DJ”. He had a talent to make the music that would relax you and keep you grooving. Al Monday is truly a Roosevelt Legend. His legacy will always be remembered by the many lives he has touched.
He raised a family and resided in Roosevelt, New York. He expanded his fatherly love and greatly influenced the lives of his extended family, as well as the youth. He was admired by a host of people. Allen displayed love, guidance, compassion and firmness for the youth in his family and the community. His greatest moments were spent playing, encouraging and enjoying quality time with his children, family and friends. He was a wonderful father, companion and friend.
Allen was preceded in death by his mother, Melba Dean Simpkins; his uncles Luther Wayne Brockman and Ivan Brockman, his cousin Adrina Williams, and other beloved family members.
Allen Jerome Simpkins, Jr., was called from labor to reward on Saturday, April 9, 2016. He leaves to cherish his memory: his father, Allen Jerome Simpkins, Sr.; his grandmother, Erma Dean Brockman; two daughters; Kiarah Imani Simpkins and KeAshma Alexus Simpkins; one son, Cody Terell Hernandez; the love of his life and mother of his children, Sonia Irene Knight; two goddaughters, Siobhan OhEigeartaigh and Ashley Worthy; a godson Bakail Talmadge, the Simpkins family, the Brockman family, a grandson, sisters, nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends.
