Obituary of Bobby C. Jones

Please share a memory of Bobby to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Thursday, June 25th, 2020 our beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, Bobby Cedric Jones Sr. was called home to be with GOD. Bobby was born on June 29, 1943 in Jenkinjones, West Virginia, the 5th of William and Bonnie Mae Jones’ 14 children. He attended Jenkinjones Elementary School and Anawalt High School. In 1962, at 18 years old, he moved to New York, joining his parents and siblings in Jamaica, Queens. Bobby held several jobs when he first came to New York, including working with his father at the Fort Hamilton Army Base. A lifelong people-person, Bobby found his passion as a salesman when he began his career with Bostonian/London Characters Shoe store in Queens, N.Y. Bobby’s charismatic personality made him exceptional at his job, and his clients, coworkers and employers alike, idolized him over the years. He worked with Bostonian for over 20 years, moving his way up from stock person to Manager of their largest location in the heart of New York City...Times Square. One of Bobby’s fondest memories, other than the births of his 4 children, was marrying the love of his life, Maryetter Wallace, on May 28, 1966. Their bond was inseparable. After 24 years of marital bliss, Maryetter passed away suddenly in November of 1990. Despite this heartbreak, Bobby took on the role of a single father with poise, and continued to raise his children as a close-knit family. After Bostonian went out of business Bobby wasted no time in moving over to his second career as a custodian at Madeline Jones Headstart in Coney Island, NY. There he worked until 2010 when he retired at the age of 67. After retirement, Bobby continued to live a peaceful life spending time with his family. He loved watching sports, attending his grandchildren’s performances and sporting events, attending NBA, NFL and MLB games with his oldest son, Bobby, listening to music with his youngest son Larrel and sipping a good cup of tea. He really enjoyed being surrounded by his family and watching them flourish due to the strong foundation he created for them. Bobby was a strong, hard-working man, a loving husband and father. He was a man of principle, but more than anything, his passion for and belief in family is his true legacy. Bobby’s love and dedication did not stop with his children. He opened his heart and home to so many throughout his life’s journey, and was a father figure and role model to nearly every young person with whom he came in contact. Affectionately known as “Uncle Bob”, “Mr. Bob” or “Mr. Bobby” by so many, his smile was infectious, and his positive energy could brighten any room. Although he was taken from us too soon, he always expressed how grateful he was to make it to the age of 76 and how happy and content he felt with the life he lived. He taught his children the value of family and paved the way for them and his grandchildren to live successful and happy lives. Bobby leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted children and their partners: Bobby Jr (Darlene), Sharone (Jerry), Dana (Lacresha), and Larrell; as well as his grandchildren: Iman, Na’im, Lataya, Chelsea, Camryn, Lauren, and Logan. He also leaves behind his three sisters and their spouses Deaconess Hestina Hogan, Brenda (Jimmy) and Phyllis (Tony), two brothers, Norman aka Rudy (Pat) and Guster, his Goddaughter Dionne as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bobby was greeted in heaven by his parents, his wife, Maryetter, and his siblings who were called home before him: Nathaniel aka Buck, William aka Muffin, Naomi, Leroy, Larry, Sam, Kenny and Geoffrey. Bobby Cedric Jones Sr. was the ultimate blueprint of what an amazing black man and father should be, and he will be deeply missed by every soul he touched.
