Obituary of Vivian Rodriguez
Please share a memory of Vivian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vivian Elaine Rodriguez was the third of five children born to the late Ezekiel "Zeke" Lattimer and Vivian Elaine Lattimer. She was the only female child born through this union. "Elaine" was born on August 10, 1952 in East Meadow, New York. Growing up will 4 brothers made Elaine a strong, tough, fighting female.
Elaine graduated from Hempstead High School. Then she graduated from Nassau Community College. She wanted to be a police officer. She passed both the written and physical test to become a Nassau County Police Officer. However, she never received the call to start the Police Academy.
During this time, Elaine meet and married the late Pedro Arturo Rodriguez Sr. Through this union, they were blessed with 2 daughters, Genera, Natisha, and 1 son, Pedro "Tuto" Jr, who is Natisha's twin brother.
While all 3 of their children were young, a friend convinced her to start a new career. Elaine creatively took the rent money and used it to pay the tuition for the Licensed Practical Nursing program. She study diligently. Her brother, Keith, helped her with her math, while her father helped by babysitting. On 8/19/1988 she graduated VEEB (Vocational Education and Extension Board) of Nassau County and started working at A. Holly Patterson Nursing Home in Uniondale as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She enjoyed her job and was very good at it. She retired December 2017.
While at Holly Patterson, she became best friends with Patricia Reynolds. They referred to each other as "sisters." Their children became brothers and sisters. When Elaine visited Patricia' family in Canada, Elaine became "their daughter." Patricia and Elaine worked together, sang in the choir together, and prayed together. They attended the Upper Room church in East Meadow; then later attended Union Baptist Church in Hempstead, NY.
In 2002, Elaine & Arturo became the proud grandparents of Daquan Rodriguez, whom they both raised like a son for 17 years.
To know Elaine, was to love her. Her childhood best friend Ruthie who had remained her other Best Friend since kindergarten could confirm her love and sincerity.
Elaine was part of a very large family. She wanted the family to know and enjoy each other. She followed in her father's footsteps and got the family together for great family barbque(s). In 2018 and 2019 she initiated the August Family Bar-b-ques at Eisenhower Park, including Tee Shirts, games, and food for all. She always wanted her family together. That is the time she treasured the most.
On the morning of April 19, 2020 Elaine departed this life to be with her heavenly Father. Vivian Elaine is survived by 3 brothers, Robert Lattimer, Bruce Lattimer, Keith Lattimer, and one predeceased brother, Kevin Lattimer; 2 daughters; Genera, Natisha; one son; Pedro Jr, one grandson, Daquan. She had many special nieces and nephews; Niima, Kevin, Gerard "Buddah", Jermaine, TJ, Christian, Junior, Kaymell, Kamari, China, Keisha, Aiesha, Tara, Tiffany, Tricia, David, Lerone, Jerome, and many more nieces, nephews, cousins, coworkers, church members, and lifetime best friend, Ruthie Roberson.
