"For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." (2 Corinthians 5:1) Mrs. Vera Mae Jefferson was born on June 5, 1937 in Tallahassee, FL, to the late Mrs. Mary Ella Carr and Mr. Monroe Carr. She confessed Christ at the age of 17 and was baptized at Union Branch Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL. After graduating from Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, FL, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Cleveland Jefferson in 1960. To this union, three sons Timothy Jefferson, Marshall Jefferson, and Ricky Jefferson and one daughter the late Roslyn Elaine Jefferson was born. Sister Jefferson was employed by Mid-Island Hospital from which she retired, in 2003 after many years of faithful and dedicated service. Sister Jefferson would give her last for her family. She always wanted great-grandchildren. It was a blessing that she was able to celebrate the life of her two beautiful great-granddaughters Nori Williams and Ma'Kayla Davis, whom she loved to the moon and back. Sister Jefferson served her Lord wherever she resided. In 1960, she united with the Emanuel Baptist Church of Elmont, New York, under the pastorate of the late Dr. Reverend H. David Parker and pastorate Reverend Ralph Taylor. She was a faithful and loyal member of the Women's Senior Choir and captain of the June birthday unit where she served diligently, for as long as she was physically able. She loved to watch the Ushers March at Emanuel. Sister Jefferson peacefully entered into rest on the morning of Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola, NY. She proceeded in death by siblings Ester B. Carr, Henrietta Carr, Monroe Carr Jr, Gwen Carr, James Carr, and one daughter Roslyn Elaine Jefferson. She leaves to cherish her sweet memory: the father of her children, Cleveland Jefferson of Pooler Atlanta, GA: three sons Timothy Jefferson, Marshall Jefferson, and Ricky Jefferson of Hempstead, NY; six sisters, Rosa Johnson of Atlanta, GA, Fannie Mae of Atlanta, GA, Susie Ford of Atlanta, GA, Eartha Lee Reshard of Hempstead, NY, Mary Lucy Barfield of New Bern, NC, and Mary Ella (Shag) of Tallahassee, FL; one brother Ervin Carr of Roosevelt, NY; two granddaughters Roslyn Jefferson of Rocky Mount, NC and Shaquana (Quanie) Jefferson of Cinnaminson, NJ; two great-granddaughters Ma'Kayla Davis and Nori Williams; two, aunt Lee Sykes of Tallahassee, FL, and Katie Mae of Jacksonville, FL; two sister in-laws, Tommy Lee Carr of Hempstead, NY, and Gail Carr of Roosevelt, NY ; one brother in-law, Zeb Barfield Jr of New Bern, NC; two daughter in-laws Joyce Jefferson of Hempstead, NY and Cathleen Jefferson of Lillian, AL; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; three of her closest friends Virginia Young of Hempstead, NY, Mary Thorpe of Wheatley Heights , NY, and Flora King of Roosevelt, NY; one adopted son Chapel Rajah Mayo of Westbury, NY, and friends. Sister Jefferson will surely be missed by her family, friends and Church which she left behind. Lovingly submitted
