Obituary of Rev. Carrie Nobles

Carrie Nobles was born June 18, 1950 to George and Ida Hollowell in Madison County, Tennessee.  At the age of four the family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.  She was educated in the Indiana Public Schools.  Upon graduation from Arsenal Tech High School she went to Wilberforce University.  She graduated from Wilberforce University with a B.A. in 1971.  She joined Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 1969.

In 1972 she moved to Buffalo, New York.  In 1975 she answered the divine call to preach at Bethel AME Church, Buffalo, New York.  She was ordained an Itinerant Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1981.  She pastored the following churches: Bethel AME Church, Olive, New York, St. Marks AME Church, Kingston, New York, Josie D. Heard, Philadelphia, PA, St. John, Wayne, PA, Bethel AME Church, Lansdowne, PA, Carter Community AME Church, Jamaica, New York, People’s Institutional AME Church, Brooklyn, NY.  She attended Philadelphia Lutheran Theological Seminary where she received her M. Div. in 1990.  She was the mother of one daughter, Dr. Alicia Collins-Dennis. She enjoyed family and friends and loved the AME Church.  She traveled to Nairobi, Kenya, Johannesburg, South Africa, Bermuda, the Virgin Islands and Barbados.  She loved to travel with the church.

She leaves to rejoice in her memory, a devoted daughter, Dr. Alicia Collins-Dennis (Reginald and two grandchildren, Caitlyn Dennis and Allison Dennis), 2 sisters Glenda Woods and Deborah Oates (Tony) of Indianapolis, Indiana. Aunt Nora L. Boykin of Humboldt, Tennessee; Nieces, Tannika Lightfoot Patton (Jerome) and Pamela Woods, Nephews, Andre Braswell and Jarrett Thomaston and a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

We rejoice in the home going of Carrie Nell whose love for her family was only exceeded by her love for God. Carrie Nell Nobles departed this life on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 with her daughter by her side at the age of 68 years old.
