Tanya Bonte Hicks was born on December 17, 1952 at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, New York. She was the first child of Frederick Russell Hicks and wife, Willie Mae. Tanya spent many of her childhood years in church on Sunday mornings and at Wednesday night choir rehearsals. She sang in the Children's' Choir at Bethel A.M.E. Church Freeport, when it was located on Helen Avenue. Choir Director Viola M. Ross gave Tanya a few solos to sing, showcasing her alto voice.. She learned to play the clarinet as a teenager and performed in the Roosevelt High School Band. In later years, Tanya earned a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Therapy. And, she married Philip Goldstein (now deceased). The two shared a love of travel, music, reading and fine dining. Friends remember her big laugh and long, lively conversations. On Saturday, May 26, 2018, Tanya passed away. She leaves to cherish her memories, mother, Willie Mae Hicks; Sister, Reva Gay Hicks. Brother-in-Law Lincoln Harrison; Nephew, Jay Harrison and wife, Karen; Uncle: Daniel Ulmer, Aunts: Viola Ulmer, Marjorie Ulmer, Ella Stein Ulmer, Rebecca Ulmer and Omega Williams, plus many, many cousins and friends. (Tanya was preceded in death by her father, Frederick Russell Hicks and sister, Simi Lazar Hicks.)
