Obituary of Vivian G. Robinson

Mrs. Vivian G. Robinson was born on March 26, 1938 to the late David and Margaret E. Miller in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. She departed this life on September 21, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, New York. Vivian was educated at Compact High School, Kings Mountain, North Carolina, graduating in 1955 as the most popular girl in her class. She attended La Mae Beauty College in Winston Salem, North Carolina and graduated as a licensed cosmetologist. Vivian was employed by Haywood Beauty Shop in Kings Mountain after graduation. At an early age, Vivian, along with her other brothers and sisters, became members of Adams Chapel AME Zion Church, where she taught bible school and sang in the choir. Vivian became a second mother to her brothers and sisters. She cooked, cleaned and nurtured them. Vivian would fight anyone who messed with her siblings and she would fight her siblings if they messed with her. Seeking better employment she moved to Hempstead, New York and met Sherman Robinson, the love of her life. They married in June of 1963 and to that union four children were born. As a family, they became members of Jackson Memorial AME Zion Church. Vivian was a dedicated employee of NYNEX for twenty five plus years and retired in May of 1997 due to health issues. Affectionately called "Viv", she was caring, giving, loving and our "Food Network Star". Everyone loved her food and tried to attend every barbeque and Sunday dinner she ever gave. Her recipes are favorites among many family and friends. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband Sherman, daughter Yvonne, brother Willard and her parents David and Margaret Miller. Leaving behind with fond memories are her children: Cynthia of Roosevelt, NY, Yvette of Hempstead, NY, Sherman Cedric (Carol)of Hempstead, NY; one step-daughter, Sherri Massenburg(Willie) of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Kathryn of Shelby, NC and Barbara (Sam) of Smyrna, DE; three brothers, Charles (Brenda) of Lansing, MI, David (Sandy) of Rosedale, NY, and Douglas (Pat) of Bayshore, NY; one brother in law, George Robinson(Mary) of Charlotte, NC; four sisters in law, Ruby Garvin of New York, NY, Barbara Robinson of Atlanta, GA, Dr. Annie Grace Robinson of Huntsville, AL, and Gloria Kinsy of Newark, DE; four grandchildren, TySaan, Yvonne, Koran and Destiny; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
