Robert Wilson Obituary

Our Heavenly Father blew the breath of life into Robert Wilson on January 14, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Lillian Pinckney and Samuel Wilson. Although he was a blessing to his parents, the late Florence and David Blount raised him in St. Albans, New York. Robert graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and later attended New York City Community College where he received an associate degree in accounting. To say you knew Robert meant you were part of the many families of his life. He loved people and had a way of connecting with them that ushered him into their life. What other way to celebrate him than to think of all the people he considered his personal family. Robert accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age. As a member of St. Albans Baptist Church since 1956, it is here that he worshiped and honored God with his church family of brothers and sisters in Christ. In addition to him being an usher he accepted the appointment as treasurer on January 19, 1992 and remained in this position until the Lord called him Home. Robert love to serve and he volunteered at the food pantry. He held no greater honor in his heart than to give of himself to his church. Not many can honestly say that they truly loved their church such as he did. Robert enjoyed going places and his traveling family went with him on cruises and flights to awesome places of beauty and wonder: the Caribbean islands, Alaska, Hawaii, England, Paris, Austria and Puerto Rico. The most memorable trip was to Greece and Turkey which lead him in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul. Wherever Robert traveled the trip was a joyful exciting experience. Robert was employed at ASCAP for over thirty years. His dedication and commitment to his work had the added bonus of bonded friendships that lived on after his retirement. After retiring he was employed with Preferred Home Care Services where yet another family fellowship was forged. Robert oftengave better than he received. Despite how he was feeling, he prefaced each day with, “I won’t complain.” A sharp dresser, Robert was coordinated from head to toe, suit, shirt, tie and shoes he presented a striking appearance. He enjoyed good food and there was nothing he disliked. A meal wasn’t complete without his dessert of choice: three-layer chocolate cake. He would finish the last bite with. “I’ll start my diet tomorrow.” Robert had no filter in what he said, he was really a funny guy. Robert was a great listener, his heart overflowed with compassion and understanding. A refuge to friend and family, he would hear them out and offer advice. He delighted in learning that someone had overcome a problem, solved an issue or grown in some way. Robert’s broad smile and glowing eyes will never be forgotten. Grateful for life, he was truly someone to emulate, a living example of true love and caring. What a blessing to mankind and an honor to God that he now hears, “. . . well done my good and faithful servant.” On July 30, 2015, Robert transitioned from his earthly body to his spiritual eternal rest. Preceding him in death are his sisters: Lillian Hamilton and Shirley Wilson. Robert leaves to cherish his memory: sisters, Minister Evelyn Wilson of Queens, New York, Virgie Spruiell of Bushkill, Philadelphia and Deborah Blount of Queens, New York. His brother: Bishop Martin Watson of Jamaica, New York, uncle, Pastor Silas Pinckney of Miami, Florida, aunt, Leola Pinckney of Walterboro, South Carolina, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, two God- children and a host of relatives and friends. Robert enriched the life of everyone he touched, his spirit lives on in the hearts of us all
