Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rev. Carolyn Bradley Jones, born on February 28, 1918, the youngest of 6 children, was born to Rev. Stephen Bradley and Caroline McFadden Bradley. She received her early education in the Coopermill Public School system in South Carolina. Upon graduation from Wydleigh High School, Carolyn came to New York City and enrolled in the Almanelli School of Cosmetology. She excelled, graduated and achieved what she considered one of her greatest accomplishments - opening and managing her own beauty shop in Harlem, New York. Carolyn met and later married the late Mose L. Jones in November 1949. God blessed this union with 4 children, Evangelist Nilotis (Ni) Jones Marchan, twins Mose and Metta, and Callie. In 1964, Carolyn and her family relocated from Manhattan to Westbury, there she joined Bethel A.M.E. Church, under the pastorate of the Rev. Daniel D. Davis. Carolyn she served as a faithful Steward, Adult Choir Member, and class leader. While under the direction of Rev. Rudolph J. Douglas, she founded "Children's Moment". On the NY Conference level, she was a member of the Ministerial Alliance, the Dept. of Evangelism and Women in Ministry. Carolyn first received her call from God in January of 1958, however she hesitated to yield to His command. Then after being involved in a serious car accident, in June 1980, she remembered God's earlier command. She was issued an Evangelist certificate in June 1981, where her service led her to a higher calling. In 1990, she was admitted to the New York Annual Conference Ministerial Institute and on October 18, 1995, she was ordained an Elder of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. She was honored by many organizations outside of the church, one being Sisters in the Struggle. She was also a member of National Action Network and the NAACP. She was an avid traveler, lover of life and all God's children. Rev. Jones was predeceased by her husband Mose Sr, her only son Mose Jr, siblings Virginia, Emma, Miller, Marie and MacQueen. She leaves to cherish her memories, her 3 children, grandchildren: Curtis Depre, Nicole Jones, Niella Hall (Brian), Kyle Marchan Sr, Amanda Jones and Nathanael Jones-Rogers; 3 great-grandchildren: Kyle Jr, who she affectionately called "Mister Mister", Grace and Autumn, and daughter-in-law Gayle Jones and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
