Obituary of Joseph Dixon

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with deepest sorrow to announce the passing of Joseph Dixon; our Friend, Father and Husband, who was called home by our Lord on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Joseph Dixon was born March 23, 1947 in Manhattan to Alethia Gaston of Savannah, GA and Joseph Dixon, Sr. of Portsmouth, Va. He attended and graduated from Westbury High School. During the Vietnam War, he heard his call to duty and enlisted in the US Navy where he served for 4 years. Joseph, loved to drive anything on wheels, and was happy to work for the MTA in Nassau County, where he has many friends and colleagues. Joseph was considered by most a quiet man, inclined to be cautious in his personal relationships and business dealings but we will not forget his boundless enthusiasm for whatever task he took in hand; From model ships to cars. He also loved the water; specifically sailing on his boat. Jazz and Brazilian was his music of choice, but photography was his passion. He loved to travel to distant places and would always bring back souvenirs and stories from his trips. It was not out of the norm for Joe to sit with his family and friends talking about current events and politics. Not one to show too much emotion, he loved his family and friends deeply. He had a smile that could light up a room and stories for days. He is survived by his wife, Dahlia, two sons, Michael and Robert, three daughters, Danielle Nicole, Natasha and Cherian; Eight grandchildren, Michael Jr, Michelle, Mario, Maya, Kayla, Alethia, Tikera, Ivery and one Great-grandson, Baby Michael. He is also survived by his first cousins that was also considered as his siblings, Charlotte, Marion, Agnes, Nelene, Sheila, Anthony and Lynn. Joe will be dearly missed and we the family, wish to express our sincere thanks for the support, prayers and other expressions of love during our time of bereavement.
