Dear Vernell, Robin, Renee, Rolonda and your beautiful family,
Pastor Cynthia and Me are saddened to hear of your beloved Reggie’s passing. He was a great example of a loving husband and father. He was so faithful on so many levels from his family to his church. We can still recall the times he spoke of you and the girls with a glimmer in his eye. He was so proud of Robin, Renee & Rolonda as he celebrated their accomplishments in life and education.
Driving for a living was a challenging vocation since it meant that he would be separated from those he loved and certainly missed. There were many times when he would suddenly and unexpectedly show up on a Thursday evening Journey Thru The Bible Experience. He would find a place to park his rig and into church he would come.
As you remember both he and you were a significant part of our church family. He would always dress up on a Sunday Morning in suit and tie readied at his position as our head usher at REAL Church. I was speaking to Pastor Brower and sharing with him that we had, in my humble opinion, the best hospitality ministry of any church in Long Island. You not only decorated with lovely chaffing and serving dishes & towers but the food was always exquisite. You could see the love you always put forth in that ministry.
Sometimes it is hard to accept the reality that this life is temporal and that it comes to an end and as in Reggies case rather suddenly. You and your family have been in our heartfelt prayers that you all would experience the same joy and peace that Reggie is experiencing right now in the presence of his Lord and Savior! I can imagine in my heart that he was greeted by many of his family and friends who preceded him but especially John & Barbara Hutchinson. John was like a father to him and Reggie had the highest regard for him too. We did as well!
We apologize that we could not be there in person. We are with you all in spirit and want you to know how deeply we love you all! Hopefully we can watch the live stream of the service if available. Let this time for you be a celebration of Reggies life because he lived a life worth celebrating.
Remember what Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18,
13 And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.
14 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.
15 We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died.
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves.
17 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.
18 So encourage each other with these words.

I will share a memory of my mother to give an example of what a selfless man Reginald was. There was a snow storm and my mother was stuck at work. He dug out his car and picked my mother up from work and brought her to the Nelson household so she could rest. He was one of a kind and will Be truly missed
