Patricia Ann Richardson Obituary
Patricia Ann Richardson, was born Patricia Ann Callender to the proud parents of Clifton
Callender and “Great Daisy” Baskerville Callender on March 16, 1943 at Kings County Hospital
in Brooklyn, NY. The couple brought Patricia to their home at 584 Herkimer Street in Brooklyn,
NY, where her formative years began. She was the 2nd of three children, her sisters, Barbara,
being the first, and Linda the third of the union. Patricia, along with her sisters, was raised
emulating the qualities exuded by their mother, Daisy, who taught and radiated an aura of
warmth and love.
Throughout her formative years, she attended elementary and middle school in Brooklyn, New
York, culminating her education as a graduate of the Eastern District High School in June of
1961, with the hopes of becoming a secretary in support of her mother, Daisy. Her professional
life began in Brooklyn as a receptionist at a prominent car dealership, later working as a
secretary on the famed Fifth Avenue in New York. There she learned the latest fashion trends of
New York City, shaping her professional and personal fashion style after New York’s top
designers of the time, tailoring her own patterns accentuating her “fashionista” creative abilities.
In 1966, Patricia met the love of her life, Daniel Richardson, and was united in matrimony on
August 17, 1968, at the Calvary and St. Cyprians Episcopal Church in Bushwick, New York,
located in Brooklyn. After a honeymoon in St. Thomas, V.I., also in 1968, the couple travelled
the world until 1979, visiting London England, Copenhagen, Denmark, Paris, France, Rome,
Italy, the Netherlands specifically Holland, Lebanon, Accra, Ghana, Nairobi, Kenya, the
Philippines, Alaska, Japan, the British Virgin Islands, as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands. Patricia
took well to the “jetsetter” lifestyle, collecting artifacts from the nations of Africa shaping her
acceptance and interest in the Swahili language. From this union, one son was born, Kenya
Kwesi, lovingly nicknamed “Kay-Kay”.
Following the untimely demise of her husband, Patricia dedicated her efforts to raising her young son and assisting her family, directly supporting her mother Daisy, who lived for the family. In later years, she found employment with the United States Postal Service, ultimately retiring in 2013 with 18 dedicated years of service. During her years working in Federal service, she befriended Regina, who became her postal “daughter,” and together with their fellow co-
workers, resumed her passion for travel. They enjoyed frequent cruises to the Caribbean, and
while stateside, Patricia spent significant time in Virginia Beach with her dear and beloved friend Diane. Patricia also became a staple in the Freeport community while working at the Freeport Recreation Center, adopting Long Island as her cherished home. Later, she relocated to Stone Mountain, GA, with her son, Kenya.
Her wonderful and special memories will be cherished by her son, Kenya, her nephew, Geoffrey, her niece, Denise, and their children, respectively, Nicole, Corey, Kevin, Dante, and
Aaron. Additionally, her God Daughter Tanya (Ta-Ta), her postal daughter Regina and the
Baskerville, Harrigan and Drinker families.
Done to commemorate her memory,
Kenya Kwesi
