Lucille McCabe Obituary

Lucille McCabe, passed away peacefully in Uniondale, New York, on February 5, 2026. She drew her final breath doing exactly what she loved: sitting beside her beloved Ronnie, sharing a quiet conversation in the early morning light.

Born on June 30, 1943, in Swan Quarter, North Carolina, Lucille was one of eleven children born to the late Magnolia and Percy McCabe. As a teenager, she moved to New York to build a new life, staying with her Aunt Lena McCabe until she established herself as a dedicated live-in caretaker.

A few years after her arrival in New York, Lucille met and married Howard Horton. Together, they welcomed three children: Tony in the spring of 1970, followed by Darlene and Dianne. Throughout these years, Lucille was known for her tireless work ethic and her passion for the kitchen, where she loved testing out new recipes on her family.

In 1986, Lucille met her longtime companion and "beau," Ronnie Pressley. For 40 years, they were each other’s greatest support. In their younger years, they were known for their daily routine of taking long walks together. As time passed, they found equal joy in the simple things: sitting together, talking, and watching Little House on the Prairie.

Lucille took immense pride in her 12+ grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, often bestowing them with endearing nicknames and providing them with a foundation of care and love that will never be forgotten.

Lucille was predeceased by: Parents, Magniloa and Percy McCabe; Husband, Howard Horton; brothers, William Sr., Percy Jr., Jimmy Sr., Joe, and Willie Gray; Sister, Minnie Cooper.

Lucille leaves to cherish her memory her beau of 40 years, Ronnie Pressley of Uniondale, NY; her son, Tony McCabe(Dawn) of Uniondale, NY; daughters, Darlene Johnson(Kevin) of Roosevelt, NY and Dianne McCabe of Hempstead, NY.; brother, Sammie Junior McCabe, of Swan Quarter, NC; sisters, Dora Dean Clayton(Jimmy) of Scranton, NC, Bertha Mae Cooper(Solomon) of Swan Quarter, NC and Virginia Magnolia Perkins of SnowHill, NC.

Her legacy continues through her twelve grandchildren, Shakeyva Panton(Tanel), Kevin Johnson, Sherrelle Ford(Ryan), Diquita McCabe, Jasmine Johnson, Danielle Johnson Oleksiak, Kahla McCabe, Malik Johnson, Keima Johnson, Charles Williams, Kaiden Johnson, and Keylia Allen; Sixteen great-grandchildren, Michael-Anthony, Eli, Aniya, Keishawn, McKenzie, Morgan, Keimani, Keymaya, Camari, Jailah, Alina, Ariyah, Cameron, Jaiden, and Jasai. She also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Horton (Bessie) and Jury Cooper, two Sisters-in-law, Lois High and Mary Horton.
