Mabel Harrison Obituary

Mabel Cargile Harrison was born to the late Hayward Richardson and Mary Lizzie Bell on December 31, 1945, in Crenshaw, Georgia. As a young child Mabel grew up in a lively household with her grandpa Jesse and grandma Ethel Bell. Mabel and her Aunt Gladys (8 years older), Uncle Willie (5 months older), Uncle Horace (3 years younger), and Cousin Arthur (11 months older) grew up like siblings. Mabel relocated to Jamaica, New York to join her mother, stepfather (Benjamin Cargile), and younger siblings at the age of 7 years old. Soon thereafter her Aunt Gladys, Uncle Willie and Uncle Horace moved to New York, to live with her family, and they were back together like siblings for a few years.

Growing up she attended Trinity AME church where she confessed Jesus Christ as Lord at an early age.  There she learned basic biblical principles.  When she went south, she attended Willacoochee House of God where her Aunt Viola Jackson was the pastor.

Mabel attended P.S. 45Q, Shimer Junior High School 142 and Woodrow Wilson High School.  During her middle and high school years she spent many summers in Nashville, Georgia with her grandpa Jesse, aunt Gladys, her uncles, younger sister, and a host of cousins from Georgia, Florida, Ohio and New York. Mabel loved the south where she would fish and eat fresh fruits and vegetables out of the garden, especially the tomatoes and watermelons.

At Woodrow Wilson Vocational High School, where she had perfect attendance for all for years, Mabel excelled in typing and stenography.  Immediately after she graduated high school, Mabel secured a job with the Bell Telephone Company better known as “Ma Bell.”  Mabel also worked at Trans World Airlines (TWA.)  and later retired from the Queens PublicLibrary.

In 1972, Mabel met her husband, Gregory Harrison who was her best friend. He embraced her two older children, Erik and Lisa. Together they had two daughters, Charlotte and Chilali. They resided in South Ozone Park Queens NY. Greg loved and cared for Mabel deeply and was by her side when she took her last breath.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: Her husbandGregory Harrison, one son Erik Cargile and three daughters Lisa Brewster, Charlotte Harrison (Randy), and Chilali Harrison; 6Grandchildren, TaeSean, Shataevia, Makaio, Abigail, Gavin and Laila and 2 great grandchildren Destiny and Jasir; her sisters: Bonnie and Connie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  Her younger brothers Benjamin Jr. and Anthony preceded her in death.
