Petunia Shan

Obituary of Petunia J. Shan

Please share a memory of Petunia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Petunia Jeanette Shan was born on May 7, 1947, at Gorgas Hospital in the Canal Zone, Republic of Panama, to the late Myrtle Iona Marshall and Arnold Wesley Marshall.

She was a dedicated scholar who attended IBM School and Escuela José Dolores Moscote, and she was a proud graduate of Paraíso High School. From an early age, Petunia demonstrated a heart for service. She was very active in the Girl Scouts and later served as a Brownies troop leader. She also volunteered as a member of the Candy Cane Stripe Group at Gorgas Hospital.

Petunia had a love for travel and enjoyed many cruises throughout her lifetime. She was also a gifted cook who delighted in sharing her special dishes with family and friends. Professionally, she worked for the telephone company for over 30 years, where she was known for her dedication and reliability.

Petunia was married to her beloved husband, Antonio Shan, for more than 56 years. Together, they raised two children, Cleon and Monica, building a home rooted in love, faith, and devotion.

Known for her kind heart and selfless spirit, Petunia was always willing to help others, no matter the circumstance. She faithfully served as a caregiver to her aunt, her mother, and a close friend for several years. Until the time of her passing, she was a devoted member of Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Petunia was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Myrtle, and her brother Virgilio(Chico).

Left to cherish and continue her legacy are her loving husband Antonio Shan; her son Cleon Shan; her daughter Monica James and son-in-law Robert; her three granddaughters Shania, Shalom, and Zoe; her sisters Zonella West (husband Raymond) and Brenda Marshall; her brother-in-law Rogelio (wife Anita); her sister-in-law Eneida Shan; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Our dearest Petunia will forever be remembered in our hearts as a beloved woman whose grace, maternal warmth, and transcendent kindness touched all whom God blessed to know her.
