Rodney “Trech” Powell Obituary
Rodney Powell was born October 16, 1968 to the late George T. Powell and Jane
Rutherford Powell in Nassau County, New York. Rodney grew up in Roosevelt,
NY and was educated in their public school system.
Starting from an early age Rodney loved to tinker. Instead of playing with his toys,
he took them apart, he was intrigued by the mechanics of how things worked. His
family would often find small appliances, clocks, radios, all in pieces. Eventually
he learned how to put them back together.
As he grew older, in his pre-teen years, his creativity, love of speed, and carpentry
started to show. He and his childhood friend built a tree-house in his backyard, he
also built go-carts with cardboard, wood scraps, and lawnmower parts, then ride
them through the streets, and the neighborhood park.
Rodney was somewhat of a daredevil and absolutely loved motorcycles; earning
him the nick name “Trech” Even after a bad accident on his motorcycle in 1995 he
continued to ride. Rodney had worked several years for the Town of Hempstead
Sanitation Dept. but due to his injuries from his accident he was unable to continue
with that work.
Rodney was an entrepreneur working as a carpenter, and “Handyman.” He created
many beautiful pieces out of wood, he had a line of clocks in the shape of Africa,
jewelry boxes, and nameplates. He had many clients that depended on him to help
with all types of handy work and repairs in their homes and businesses.
Rodney gave his life to Christ and was Baptized at Mt. Sanai Baptist Church,
Roosevelt, NY where he also served as a walking Deacon.
Rodney was known for his kindness and generosity and was encouraging to his
friends in need, but most of all he was a wonderful father to his daughter. His
warm presence will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Rodney leaves to celebrate his life and memories, his mother, Jane Powell,
daughter, Shadazia Powell, sister, Jacqueline Powell, nephew, Marquis Powell, and
great nephew, Chazare “CJ” Powell a host of relatives and friends.
