Obituary of Michael R. Archer
In Loving Memory of Michael Regan Archer
December 24, 1966 – March 31, 2025
Michael Regan Archer, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully transitioned on March 31, 2025, surrounded by his children and former wife. Born on December 24, 1966, in Brooklyn, NY, Michael was the fifth son of proud, loving Jamaican-born parents, Derk and Audrey Archer.
In 1975, the Archer family relocated to East Massapequa, where Michael attended Amityville schools and graduated from Amityville Memorial High School, Class of 1984. During his school years, he was a proud member of the wrestling team and nurtured a deep love for photography. Known for his bright, infectious smile and undeniable charm, he was affectionately nicknamed “Cheese” by friends.
Michael was a dedicated and hardworking young man, often seen working at Buy Rite Liquor store known as “The Rite” in Massapequa alongside his friends during high school and while attending Farmingdale College and SUNY Old Westbury. He had a deep appreciation for music, especially reggae and jazz, and was a loyal fan of the New York Knicks, Yankees, and Jets. A passionate car enthusiast and dog lover, Michael lived his life with quiet strength and deep personal interests.
In 1988, Michael began a distinguished career with the Nassau County Sheriff's Department as a Corrections Officer. He was respected for his professionalism, calm demeanor, and integrity. Though a man of few words, when Michael spoke, his words were meaningful, insightful, and often left a lasting impression.
In 1991, Michael welcomed his daughter, Jazmyne, and in 1995, his son, Malik. He adored his children and lived each day motivated by his love for them. In 2017, he became a proud grandfather to Jackson, a title he cherished. In July 2025, Michael was eagerly anticipating the arrival of his granddaughter, Jade—a joyful addition to a family he held so close to his heart.
Michael was not only a family man but a visionary. In 2019, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming an entrepreneur when he opened Island Soul in Lindenhurst, NY. This vibrant establishment quickly became a beloved gathering place, especially for the under-served Black community on Long Island. More than just a restaurant, Island Soul was a reflection of Michael’s passion, culture, and commitment to creating space for connection and celebration. His vision was widely appreciated and deeply impactful.
After retiring in 2015, Michael enjoyed his well-earned rest, spending time relaxing, honing his cooking skills, and traveling. Though he accomplished much, his greatest joy remained his family—his children and grandchildren, who were his pride and legacy.
Michael’s presence will be deeply missed, but his love, his smile, and the community he built will continue to resonate in the lives he touched.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Archer, daughter JazmyneArcher (Jack Davis), son Malik Archer, grandson Jackson, expected granddaughter Jade, bonus granddaughter, Katalina Davis, his brothers Dennis Stairs (Ann Stairs) and Raymond Archer, devoted aunt, Pansy Castell, former spouse, Dolly Carrington (Malik’s mother), Aleisha Johnson (Jazmyne’s mother), a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends who were lucky enough to know and love him. Preceded in death by his father, Derk Archer, his brothers Auswin Archer and Sherlock Archer.
Rest in peace, Michael. Your good vibes, your good works, and your unwavering love for your family and community will live on forever.
